British Museum
Visit to the BM in Summer 08, mainly to see the Hadrian exhibit (at which no cameras were permitted). Unfortunately, several of the galleries I wanted to visit were closed (all of the basement, which includes the Roman sculpture and later Mesopotamia). According to one information desk, this was down to some refitting going on. According to another, it was down to lack of staff ("though we took on an extra 20 for Hadrian") due to lack of funds, due to nobody putting anything in the donations boxes on the way in (I'd like to point out at this point that I'm a supporting member of the museum). One suggestion I'd have would be to charge for photography licenses (for which I'd happily pay), which would mean less stepping over Japanese tourists draping themselves across the exhibits for kitsch shots of themselves. Another would be to build less set piece white elephant projects and fund the bloody thing properly. Bah.
I'll try and go up again and get some more shots - will try and book some time in the closed galleries, if it's possible.
