Welcome
I've been meaning to set up this site for a while.
But what with work and all, well, you know. Anyway, now it's done. I plan to use it for notes on my gaming activity, and because they're usually (but not always) inextricably tied, to track my historical interests.
My gaming interests cover a variety of wargames - both historical and not so - as well as boardgaming, from the fuzzy family kind to board wargaming. My historical wargaming interest has thus far been in the areas of ancients (which, according to the Society of Ancients, covers the period from 3000BC to 1500AD, and so includes the medieval period), as well as the pike and shot period, notably the Great Italian Wars, the English Civil War and the Thirty Years War. However, like most wargamers I'm afflicted by attention deficit disorder when it comes to wargaming periods, and I just purchased a bunch of the Perrys' new plastic 28mm American Civil War miniatures, dragging myself forward in time somewhat further.
I'm a member of the aforementioned Society of Ancients, and am current editor of its august journal, Slingshot, which is published six times a year (if I'm doing my job, anyway). Right now, work pressures mean I play far less than I would like, so Slingshot allows me the opportunity to remain involved in the hobby while dreaming about a long gaming holiday at some ill-defined point in the future. I'm also a member of the Lance and Longbow Society, and of the Pike and Shot Society, and I can heartily recommend their respective magazines, the Hobilar and the Arquebusier.
My preferred figure scale is 28mm, though I have been known to dabble in 15mm and maintain a small (if that's the right term) stable of DBA armies. My preferred ruleset for historical gaming, however, is WAB, partly because I also play WFB (badly) and very occasionally 40k (worse) and it's enough just trying to remember the nuances of difference between those particular rulesets, without knowing whole different ones.
To start with, I just plan to maintain a blog and some image galleries on the site. I'll add other stuff as I get the time. The blog and the galleries will cover various gaming subjects (as well as any relevant reading and museum visits) and will also include updates on what's happening with Slingshot. If you're only interested in the Slingshot updates, you can go here (and thence subscribe to the RSS feed).
So there we are. It's still a bit of a work in progress, but better to put something out there, at least.
